Manager of Accounting Job Opening in Atlanta, Georgia - Primary Responsibility: Supervise, track and evaluate day-to-day activities in the Accounting ? General Ledger Department.
Essential Functions: * Direct supervision of the day to day operations of the General Ledger group * Facilitate monthly close processes ensuring deadlines are met and senior management is alerted timely of potential issues and/or adjustments * Prepare, review and approve journal entries and reconciliations * Prepare, review, and analyze complex and/or confidential accrual computations * Prepare standard monthly close schedules and ad-hoc presentations for management level consumption * Guide other departments by researching and interpreting accounting policy; applying observations and recommendations to operational issues while balancing financial control requirements with practical solutions * Assist other departments in preparation of annual budget and forecasts through understanding of nature and timing of multiple revenue streams and expenditures * Monitor progress towards annual and quarterly departmental goals and provide timely status reports to managers * Coach, train, recruit, hire, and provide both formal and informal feedback to team members * Leader in managing internal and external audits including reviewing deliverables in detail before submission to auditors * Lead and participate in special project work including managing and/or completing multiple projects simultaneously * Research technical accounting issues and prepare position papers * Continuously update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; and participating in professional organizations * Protect organization?s value and integrity of department by maintaining confidentiality of information * Other duties and special projects as requested.
Qualifications & Experience:
Education, Training & Professional Experience:
Bachelor?s degree in Accounting or Finance required * 7 years accounting experience to include a minimum of 2 years of public accounting (Big 4 preferred) CPA required * Minimum 3 years of experience * Thorough understanding of GAAP and the ability to research technical accounting issues and apply them accordingly * Proficient with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint * ERP general ledger experience required and SAP general ledger experience preferred
Knowledge & Employment Standards: * High attention to detail and accuracy * Ability to manipulate large amounts of data * Ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbal, to direct and motivate team and others and maintain a persuasive and credible presentation style at all levels of the organization, including upper management * Proven ability to work in fast-paced, detailed and deadline-oriented environment by balancing multiple priorities simultaneously with occasional interruptions and/or reprioritizing of tasks * Proven skills in the areas of planning, organizing, problem solving, critical thinking and human relations * Demonstrates consistency, flexibility and commitment to meet or exceed deadlines * Willingness to put in extra time and effort when required * Some travel required (~10%)
