POSITION SUMMARY
Title: Medical Assistant/Certified Medical Assistant
Reports to: Medical Support Staff Manager
Status: Non-Exempt
POSITION SUMMARY
The Medical Assistant will perform delegated clinical, clerical, and administrative duties within the supervising physician's scope of practice consistent with the MA's education, training, and experience. Such duties shall not constitute the practice of medicine. The physician supervision shall be active and continuous, but shall not necessarily require the physical presence of the supervising physician at the time and place that the services are rendered

Maintains documentation in clinic record to ensure accurate tracking of the patient medical treatment
Prepares and Administers Medication and Immunizations
Schedules/Informs Patients regarding procedures
Follows procedure for handling various specimens/cultures
Follows pain Management protocols
Performs/ Assists with wound care
Locates and uses equipment required for providing patient care
Prepares and assists with procedures

Relationships

PRIMARY TASKS AND DUTIES
Prepare examination room and all needed equipment for each patient restocking as needed
Assist physician with patient examinations, treatments and minor surgery
Open sterile packs maintaining sterile asepsis
Clean, disinfect instruments and supplies
Maintain safety practices in all areas and procedures
Put on sterile gloves using proper technique/proper hand washing technique
Dispose of contaminated materials
Take and record vital signs, allergies, and subjective findings (i.e. blood pressure, pulse, temperature, respiration, height, weight and head circumference)
Prepare sterile field for minor office procedures
Maintain timely flow of patients
Greets patients and Prepares and drape patient for examination and/or treatment
Take and record an infant?s height, weight, and head circumference
Preparing packaging for sterilization and use of autoclave
Give injections, immunizations, allergy, etc.
Perform TB tests
Perform EKG test
Perform ear wash
Perform dressing changes
Perform suture removal
Assist in collection of specimens
Prepare the specimens for shipping
Perform simple routine laboratory procedures, such as urinalysis and simple blood tests and cultures
Perform visual acuity tests
Assist with audiometric testing
Document accurately according to PCMH and MU standards
Participate in quality management
Check sample drugs for outdates
Participates in CLIA and OSHA compliance and monitoring
Maintains clinical facility integrity and cleanliness
SECONDARY TASKS AND DUTIES
Perform other related duties as required, which include but are not limited to:
Work on KCHC Quality Collaborative, as needed.
Assist in training new staff.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/KEY COMPETENCIES
Understand procedure and diagnosis coding
Ability to give instructions to patients as instructed by doctor
Keep medical records in accordance to procedures and forms
Follow principles of medical ethics for medical assistant, and maintain patient confidentiality
Recognize and use medical terminology
Display teamwork skills
Skill in taking vital signs
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Education
Graduate from a Medical Assistant Program
Must produce Official School Diploma
Must produce Official School Transcripts
Must obtain Certified Medical Assistant status within 6 months upon hire and maintain certification
Must be CPR Certified
Ability to communicate in Spanish (oral and written) preferred

Must be current on all ACIP immunizations & PPD Status
Sitting less than 10% of the time
Walking and standing greater than 90% of the time
Occasional bending and lifting
