Cost Accountant Job Opening in Fort Wayne, Indiana - Job Summary
The cost accountant is responsible for applying principles of cost accounting to provide accurate and detailed product costing, inventory valuation, and liability calculations on a daily, weekly, and/or monthly basis.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Determine and maintain accurate costs of business activities such as raw material purchases, inventory and labor.
Analyze changes in product design, raw materials, manufacturing methods, or services provided, to determine effects on costs.
Prepare reports to compare actual to budgeted manufacturing costs and explain variances.
Record cost information for use in controlling expenditures.
Compile cost information to be used in operating budget preparation.
Support monthly close process.
Reconcile monthly inventory and cost of goods sold (COGS).
Perform product costing and margin analysis for new and existing products.
Maintain perpetual inventory and investigates discrepancies.
Maintain and manage Bill of Materials with respect to labor and material costs.
Perform labor performance analysis for management review.
Devise, install and control systems for determining unit cost of products or services.
Conduct product line analysis for management review.
Maintains responsibility for routine compilation of part manufacturing costs, inventory accountability, distribution of factory labor, verification of actual costs and computation of variances.
Assist with cycle counting and physical inventories
Audit and validate cost reduction projects
Other duties as assigned
COMPETENCIES
Working knowledge of Cost Accounting principles, practices, and procedures
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common financial reports and legal documents
Ability to write reports and business correspondence
Ability to effectively present information to top management
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical information in mathematical form
Thoroughness and attention to detail
Basic project management
Problem solving analysis
Manual and automated systems experience preferred.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office products including (Excel, PowerPoint, and Word)
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND SKILLS
A bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or equivalent
Three to five years in a cost accountant role within a manufacturing environment
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects
