Content Manager, Conferences (Healthcare Industry)

Southport, Connecticut

Content Manager, Conferences (Healthcare Industry) Job Opening in Southport, Connecticut - The Company
Lincoln Healthcare Leadership is a healthcare intelligence company serving C-level leaders of large provider organizations. Our core product is best-in-class executive conferences, known for visionary education, exceptional peer networking, authentic customer service and memorable experiences. We currently own and operate five conferences in four healthcare segments: hospitals, home health, long term care, and senior living.
Our mission is to inspire excellence in leadership, strategy and innovation and to be a catalyst for change as healthcare providers move from a fee-for-service reimbursement system to a value-based system.
Lincoln is currently investing in our healthcare intelligence capabilities. In addition to organizing healthcare content, we are increasingly originating content ? combining health policy understanding, provider business understanding and proprietary research to create original, in-depth content that serves as a strategy blueprint for providers to lead change in their sectors.
In addition to growing in healthcare intelligence, we will also continue to selectively launch new conferences that fit our mission to be a catalyst for change in healthcare services.
We currently have 20 employees and are located in Southport, CT. Lincoln expects a high level of commitment from our employees, and in return we aim to be an equally worthy employer. We offer competitive compensation and health benefits, very flexible hours, and progressive policies in vacation time, parental leave and sabbatical leave.
The Position
The Content Manager is a newly-created position at Lincoln. We currently have a healthcare education group consisting of 2 (FTE) people, and several other part-time contributors. This position will be our third full-time education position. Lincoln?s education group creates educational programs across our five healthcare conferences. As mentioned, we are elevating the level of our education to create original strategy blueprints for providers to lead change in their sectors. To do this, we are building up the group with more horsepower (and brainpower).
Here is an idea of the work process involved in creating our educational sessions:
First, we solicit ideas from our conference advisory boards and informal experts in each sector. We discuss and deliberate on these ideas internally to come up with our preliminary educational session ideas. We then conduct phone research among provider clients and other experts to refine session ideas ? discover sharper angles, fresh perspectives, original takes on the topic. We create final session descriptions, and then recruit speakers for the session. Then begins a quality control process where we work with the session moderator or presenters to help shape the content/discussion into the best form we can get it, often including generating original slides ourselves.
Our audiences consist of C-level leaders at leading healthcare providers. They are in the later stages of their careers and have deep knowledge about their fields, so the bar is quite high for Lincoln to produce content that is fresh and insightful for them ? hence the critical importance of quality content from our educational department at Lincoln.

Qualities we seek
Curiousity. This position is well suited for someone with an open mind and a desire to learn about ? and contribute to ? the evolution of the U.S. healthcare system. This is especially important to the overall objective of our education programming, which is to connect the dots for our audience ? help them figure out what changes mean for their strategic planning going forward. Having some prior healthcare knowledge is of course ideal, but it is not a requirement. Most valuable is someone who can help contribute to the creation of fresh, actionable ideas for providers to help them innovate their businesses during this time of change.
Drive. Taking a pro-active view toward healthcare trends and relating them to the education we produce is a key quality we are seeking in an Content Manager. The healthcare system is undergoing fundamental change ? often at a very rapid pace. A fundamental part of your role will include pro-actively seeking out information related to healthcare reform, studying it, understanding it, and recommending ways to incorporate it into the educational programming. At Lincoln, we promote a ?bottom up? approach to idea generation. As such, it is our expectation that the Content Manager will help drive new ideas relative to topics, speakers, sessions and format.
?Ownership? mentality. Whether the task is small or large, it is important that the Content Manager ?owns? his or her work (research, recruiting, sessions). You care about quality, you have passion for doing great work, you take full responsibility for what is on your plate and will not be satisfied until what you deliver is really good.
People skills. In this role, you will be communicating directly and indirectly with C-level executives of large healthcare providers ? mostly by email and phone, but also in person at our conferences (5x/year) plus another 2 to 3 trips to healthcare sector events (conferences, board meetings, etc). You must be comfortable with the concept of talking to executives and getting them to talk to you about their challenges and how their business works. This is not dis-similar to the interviewing skills of a reporter or editor. However in most cases you will be recruiting them as speakers and shaping their content, which means being able to persuade them to present or discuss a topic in a way they may not have thought about before. All of this requires a certain set of people skills ? communicating your knowledge of the topic; influencing them; using tact; working through mild conflict resolution, etc.
Productivity. Despite being a strong thinker, you can also get things done. There is output needed on a timetable ? speakers recruited, sessions written up, quality control process moving along briskly. You are adequately organized and can handle administrative skills.
Creativity. In addition to being smart, you can also think out of the box. Despite what our audiences tell us, it is up to us to give them content that they do not even know about themselves; we have to come up with innovative content that is forward-thinking and requires us to conceive of novel ideas, take positions, and take risks. Along with this, you are open minded ? not coming to this position with strong biases that affect your ability to craft prescriptive strategy ideas.
(Note: Lincoln?s view on healthcare is , pro-change and pro-competition as a way to help lower costs and improve quality. We believe providers should innovate and take risk, and we encourage them to do so. As our mission says, Lincoln aims to be a catalyst for change among healthcare providers. As such, we relish the opportunity to have whatever impact we can on moving our healthcare system forward. )
General business knowledge. We expect everyone in our education department to have a good baseline understanding of business. Our provider clients run companies, so understanding what the world looks like through the eyes of a business executive will be really helpful in this role.
Healthcare Knowledge. As stated earlier, this is not a requirement. But it is essential that the Content Manager be a fast learner and soak up healthcare.
Experience
Potentially fertile backgrounds for this job: journalism & media; marketing & communications; business studies; and/or management consulting.
Five to ten years of work experience and a Bachelor?s Degree related to any of the fields outlined above. Graduate degree a plus, but not a requirement.
