Localization Project Manager Job Opening in Portland, Oregon - Project Managers at VIA are directly responsible for the coordination of localization and translation projects, which may include coordination of engineering, writing and publishing tasks required to produce multilingual documentation, learning content and software packages for our customers. Project managers schedule and manage multiple projects simultaneously for a set of client accounts.
Essential Functions:
Lead client engagement and/or provide consultative support throughout project lifecycle
Obtain project specifics from client, ensuring schedule, cost and quality objectives; work with sales team to ensure clarity of project and client expectations
Develop and provide project plans, schedules, status reports and budgets for customers and internally as needed.
Coordinate internal and external resources (translators, editors, desk-top publishers, software engineers, QA and software testers) within budget and turnaround time constraints, including some delegation of work to global operations teams
Track assignment and progress of action items, proactively identify issues/potential issues, and take action to prevent time delays or increased costs
Update management regularly on project progress and any changes in scope, timeline, or cost, as needed, and if necessary follow proper guidelines for processing Change Orders with customers
Monitor project risk and communicate issues to client. Oversee resource allocation including suppliers, engineers and QA through entire project life cycle.
Lead team meetings to analyze past projects for lessons learned; lead and/or present case studies and team learnings
Additional Responsibilities:
Able to keep informed of industry trends, best practices and technical developments.
Can make recommendations to customer and upper management based on industry knowledge in order to improve processes and develop best practices.
Support sales team in writing of proposals
Qualifications:
Required:
Bachelor?s degree and/or 2 or more years equivalent experience as a technical project manager, localization project manager, account manager or similar position
Strong customer presentation and sales support skills
Advanced PC/Mac computer skills, including MS Office and desktop publishing software
Excellent communication, interpersonal and presentation skills
Experienced in leading web and software localization processes, software development best practices
Desired:
Foreign language skills
Experience working with vendors and geographically dispersed teams
Knowledge of translation memory software such as SDLX, Studio, DVX and Trados.
Energetic self-starter with initiative and creative approach to problem solving
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Ability to develop budgets and timelines
Familiarity with multicultural issues in the US and abroad
