Behavior Management Specialist Job Opening in Albuquerque, New mexico - Position Overview
The Behavior Management Specialist (Specialist) is responsible for assisting SED/NBD youth to develop, restore and/or maintain behaviors which make appropriate functioning in the community possible. The Specialist, in cooperation with the BMS Coordinator and with Clinical Oversight, creates a Service Plan to address client abhorrent behaviors. The Specialist employs the methods identified in the Service Plan to teach behavior-enhancing skills. The Specialist also functions as a member of the clinical team by providing positive reinforcement and employing therapeutic interventions. Behavior management services are delivered to clients up to age 21 who are in need of behavior management interventions which have been designed to avoid inpatient hospitalization, residential treatment and/or separation from family. In addition, Specialists provide supportive services following hospitalization or out-of-home placement as a means of transition designed to maintain the client in the least restrictive environment possible. The Specialist is responsible for assisting the natural or foster/adoptive family, the school teacher, or others in their efforts to help the client achieve and maintain appropriate behavior management skills.
General Duties and Responsibilities Required For Behavioral Management Specialists:
Learn and employ skills related to the assigned job;
Meet productivity requirements;
Seek supervision and input as needed to perform the job, but with less frequency as length of service increase;
Attend all required pre-service training and subsequent training as assigned by Open Skies Healthcare;
Technical skills: Ability to use a computer and proficiency with Word, Outlook and Excel may be required; the ability to learn other software as appropriate;
Performs other related tasks as required or assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education, Certification, and Experience Requirements
Minimum of a high school diploma. Bachelor's degree in Human Services field preferred.
Minimum age of 21 years.
Demonstrate the ability to independently implement and document the outcome of the goals, measurable objectives and interventions as defined in a behavioral management skills development service plan.
Possess a valid N.M. Drivers license in good standing.
Have a demonstrated ability to establish rapport with youth and their families.
Ability to follow the goals and objectives in a service plan.
Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with clients, colleagues, supervisor, and the community.
Ability to work as a team member.
Knowledge and Ability Requirements
Knowledge of community based and family centered behavioral health services preferred. Must have knowledge of spectrum of mental illnesses, DSM-IV?TR/DSM V codes and descriptions, psychotropic medications and crisis intervention. Must be able to function as a member of the Open Skies Healthcare case management team who facilitates Child and Family Team meetings for assigned families. Must maintain good consumer relationships, possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, and be able to identify priorities and stay organized.
Tools and Equipment Requirements
Ability to use current electronic records management system. The ability to use a phone, computer, printer, and copier is required. Frequently uses Microsoft Office products, including but not limited to Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. The ability to use the internet and various web browser software is required.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Physical Working Conditions and Office Setting Description
Requires prolonged sitting, standing, frequent bending, stooping, or stretching. Some lifting may be required. Frequent and prolonged typing and frequent and prolonged operation of computer, keyboard, and telephones required. Also requires occasional use of fax machines, telephones, copiers, security systems, and other office equipment. Work is performed in the community as well as an office setting. Occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions. Evening or weekend hours are required on an as needed basis.
Driving and Other Requirements
Must have and maintain a valid New Mexico driver license, have a registered and reliable vehicle that meets state law standards, and meets the insurance standards of Open Skies Healthcare. Position requires travel between Open Skies Healthcare sites as well as the community
