Staff Accountant Job Opening in Lima, Ohio - Staff Accountant
This position reports to the Associate Vice President for Finance, Controller, Assistant Treasurer.
APPOINTMENT PERIOD:
Annual renewable 12-month appointment.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Staff Accountant will be responsible for an assigned portfolio of grants, as well as participation in the grant proposal process. In addition, the analysis of financial information and preparation of appropriate reports related to restricted funds and other duties and projects as assigned. This financial information is used in the preparation of entries into the general ledger and for the documentation of business transactions.
The Staff Accountant serves as a primary liaison with principle investigating, department administrators, and staff accounts and collaborates with various grant areas. Major responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
Provide coordination of post-award fiscal and reporting services to principal investigators of federal, state, and local grant funded projects;
Assist with the interpretation and analyze complex accounting, federal and contract; regulations and clauses to ensure compliance with grant specifications. Escalate critical issues to management in a timely manner to avoid compliance risks or penalties and meet deadlines on a timely manner;
Participate with the federal, state, and other agencies in the timely submission for grant expenditures, reimbursements, draw downs, appropriation status, closeouts and maintain a working relationship with those agencies;
Maintain expenditure reports (e.g. Financial Status Report) and monitor receivables for federal, state, and other agencies;
Provide support and backup for the payroll process;
Provide payroll details to the Financial Aid Department for work study students;
Perform other similar duties as required.
MAJOR WORK QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor?s degree required, CPA and/or MBA preferred; minimum of two years of accounting with a thorough knowledge and understanding of generally accepted accounting principles and practices. Must have a general understanding of the Uniform Administrative Requirements, Guidance, Cost Principles, and Audit requirements on federal awards. Experience developing an indirect cost rate proposal with a federal agency and financial systems required, preferably Banner. Must have excellent written and oral communication skills; relational database experience preferred. Excellent oral and written communication skills, strong MS Office skills, particularly Excel. Must have excellent time management and interpersonal skills, organization, coordination and prioritization of work to achieve department goals, and be able to work overtime when necessary.
Must have an appreciation for and understanding of a two-year college
mission; candidate should have demonstrated awareness of diversity issues in higher education and possess skills in cultural competency.
