Product Manager - Reinsurance Job Opening in Grinnell, Iowa - Manages a team of analysts to provide pricing recommendations and produce analytic reporting on a scheduled or ad-hoc basis to the reinsurance leadership team and other business partners.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Coordinates collection, organization, and storage of data from internal and external sources that produce analytics that drive pricing decisions.

Recommends innovative solutions to improve pricing model sophistication and monitors emerging market trends for competitive comparison.

Researches and analyzes new pricing concepts by incorporating cost/benefit analysis of market opportunities and new initiatives.

Provides data or analytics on a scheduled or ad-hoc basis for the Reinsurance Leadership Team and other business partners.
Trains new team members and provides on-going training for current staff. Observes staff to review performance and provide feedback and training. Communicates relevant and important information with staff.

Audits work of team to confirm best practice pricing and customer service standards are met. Provides feedback to team member to ensure processes are complete.

Presents information to various audiences. May include internal and external groups, customers, senior leaders and board members. Presentations may be to educate, influence or support recommended changes and market trends.

Collaborates on Division and Corporate projects with cross functional teams when appropriate to achieve results for business. Provides resources, research, and guidance from area of expertise.

Represents Grinnell Mutual and the reinsurance division in professional manner at both internal and external meetings as requested. Occasional travel (day and overnight) is occasionally required.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university plus 3 years of pricing and/or insurance experience or equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Prefer CPCU or API designation. ARe designation or other insurance coursework a plus.
Ability to understand complex insurance terminology and personal lines products. Experience in the property-casualty insurance field a plus.
Ability to coordinate and deliver results through people and resources without direct authority. Must be able to work with multiple interruptions.
Ability to use personal judgment, experience, known facts and figures to make decisions, recommendations, and resolve problems.
Demonstrated ability to gather and analyze data as it applies to the current and future business direction of Grinnell Mutual. Understands the implications of both new and current information to problem solving and decision making.
Demonstrated ability to effectively build teams through, collaboration, relationship and negotiation skills.
Ability to maintain confidentiality of proprietary company, customer and/or client information.
Ability to keep a regular work schedule and maintain predictable attendance.
Ability to work in a harmonious manner with co-workers, supervisor, customers and general public.
Ability to provide a high level of customer service internally and externally by delivering timely, accurate responses to inquiries in manner that is easily understood by recipient. Information may be delivered in verbal or written format.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects as required by business need and deliver on time. Must be able to work with multiple interruptions.
Ability to function independently and work in an environment with limited supervision.
Ability to use general office equipment including PCs, telephone, fax, copier/scanner, calculator and demonstrate basic knowledge of Microsoft Office suite products including MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Ability to maintain a valid driver?s license and travel from the home office GMRC mutual locations or meeting sights. Overnight travel is occasionally required within the Midwest, up to approximately 15% of the year. Ability to adhere to our Fleet Safety Policy.
Ability to maintain regular and predictable schedule to meet the needs of our customers and provide adequate coverage during our core business hours.

Supervisor Responsibilities:
Supervises pricing analytics team. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization?s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; develop and set goals with team; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Responsibility & Decision Making Authority:
Responsible for gathering and compiling information in a format that is easily understood to support recommendations to leadership.
Selects qualified staff and develops training plans.

Fiscal Responsibility:
Responsible for reporting business expenses in a timely manner through an expense account for any work-related travel.

Responsible for recommendations related to pricing risks taken by the company to maintain long term stability.

Contacts (Internal, External):
Frequently works with the reinsurance underwriting and marketing teams. Occasionally works with all divisions of in the home office.
Occasional contact with mutuals, auditor(s), mutual managers, or other related company vendors either through email or telephone calls.

Works with many types of people, including internal and external customers, which can be stimulating, yet demanding and stressful.
Frequently works under externally imposed deadlines with expected interruptions to the workflow making it difficult to anticipate the nature and volume of work to perform.
The position is physically located in the home office with a work environment of a typical office setting; noise level is relatively quiet and occasional stress is encountered as deadlines approach. The position requires an individual to sit for long periods of time at a computer monitor. Requires visual acuity and potential eye strain. Repetitive movement is involved.
Ability to occasionally exert up to 20 pounds of force and to lift up to 10 pounds.
