LPN Shift Leader Summary:
In addition to the regular LPN duties, the LPN leads a team of 6-10 care givers, and manages the shift team (with help of Team Leader) of PCAs, Med Techs and Nurses to ensure we provide quality care and excellent customer service for our residents. Trains, coaches and oversees the shift team to develop the skills and teamwork needed to deliver the desired service quality. Ensures the safety of residents, visitors and co-workers present in the community. Acts as Manager on Duty, when the Executive Director and Director of Wellness are not present. LPN Shift Leader leads, supports, and enforces the policies, programs and philosophy of Providence Place.
LPN Routine Functions of the Position:
- As a Shift Leader, LPN will also sign appropriate job description (ie: LPN or Med Tech).
- Assign duties and responsibilities to shift members and work with Team Leader to oversee and manage the shift team.
- Lead Shift Huddle early in each shift to ensure your team is informed of any unusual situations, changes or concerns
- Communicate with residents, visitors and staff effectively and as needed
- Build a positive, respectful and supportive environment for residents, coworkers and visitors.
- Participate in welcome and orientation of all new residents.
- LPN will welcome, train and take full responsibility for helping each new co-worker succeed on your team.
- Actively protect resident and co-worker safety by recognizing and reporting (or taking immediate action) to minimize risk of accident or injury.
- Appropriately handle on-the-job injuries reported by co-workers.
- Respond to resident emergencies and react effectively.
- Follow requirements for completion of any safety related reports.
- LPN manages and monitors resident care, the implementation of medical orders, medication handling and integrity, the following of customer support plans, responding to resident illnesses or injuries, and the protection of resident rights during your shift.
- Communicate information to your staff, to residents and their families, to your management, to physicians and pharmacists, and to outside agencies to ensure effective resident care.
- Update and maintain customer support plans and other documents to keep resident information accurate and to keep staff, physicians and families informed.
- Observe for any signs of resident abuse or neglect. Take immediate action to prevent arm and report any incidents according to company policy and state law.
- Participate in interviewing, hiring, orientation and ongoing training of co-workers.
- Work with Team Leader to coach and manage co-worker performance. Evaluate co-worker performance collaborating with your DOW.
- Develop and train all co-workers on your team to improve their skills, to help them become more effective universal workers (assisting with all daily life of residents including meals, activities and personal interests) and to provide them opportunities for growth.
- Other duties as assigned.
LPN Shift Leader's Minimum Qualifications:
- Demonstrated leadership skills and, at least, some management experience.
- Experience managing complex tasks in a busy environment.
- Prefer LPN or RN license or extensive healthcare experience.
