Accounting Assistant Job Opening in Brandywine, Maryland - GREATER BADEN MEDICAL SERVIES INC. (GBMS) is a non-profit 501(c) 3 organization that provides primary and preventive care services for both insured and uninsured patients.
We are a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) which means that we meet government standards for quality of care and we provide a defined range of basic health services. Our services include Pediatric Care, Adult Care, Dental Care, Behavioral Health, Case Management, Prenatal & Women?s Health, Substance Abuse Treatment, HIV/AIDS testing and treatment, Veteran?s Medical Care, Health Education, Outreach, and WIC services. We partner with local governments, social services departments, faith communities, businesses and non-profit leaders to address the needs of our patients. Job Summary:
Under the direct supervision of the Chief Financial Officer, the duties and/or activities performed by the Accounting Assistant are listed below. These duties are subject to change based on the needs of the agency.
Essential Functions:
Prepare and reconcile monthly deposits
Responsible for ensuring cash and cash equivalent are deposited in a timely fashion for cash flow purposes.
Ensuring all bank deposits are reconciled with the electronic medical records and practice management system.
Provide the Chief Financial Officer with administrative support and special projects assigned.
Must be organized and keep accurate filing system.
Maintain a filing system in accordance to company policies and acceptable accounting practices.
Must prepare monthly journal entries for all revenue and payments received.
Ability to track payments on excel spreadsheet and partner with billing staff for monthly reconciliation.
Prepare monthly accounts receivable aging report and the ability to administer collection process.
Knowledge of preparing financial statements and supporting schedules according to monthly close schedule.
Knowledge of revenues and expenses to ensure they are recorded appropriately on a monthly basis.
Assist with analyzing financial statements on a monthly basis and report on variances.
Ability to be cross trained on all module of Accounting.
Assist in accounts payable coding, invoicing, and payment processing.
Assist in maintaining aged receivables and resolve outstanding issues.
Assist in payroll transmissions within ADP Workforce and timekeeping system.
Assist in resource management of company?s cash flow.
Assist in the preparation of financial reports by department and maintain spreadsheets monthly.
Assist in documentation and monitoring of internal controls
Assist in maintaining and reconciling grantor monthly/quarterly invoice submission
Assist in resolving audit issues assigned by the Chief Financial Officer.
Assist with other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications :
Associates degree or education equivalent to graduation from high school and/or a minimum of five years in accounting or finance.
Preferred Experience/Skills :
Minimum of five years? experience in accounting or finance.
Communication:
Internal: Daily contact with center staff and providers.
External: Frequent contact with insurance carriers, vendors and patients.

Work Environment
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
Physical and Mental Demands
Ability to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time.
