Association Director Job Opening in Olympia, Washington - The Washington Association of Area Agencies (W4A) State Director?s key role is to advance the mission and vision of 13 Area Agencies on Aging in Washington State.
W4A believes that through leadership, partnership, coordination, innovation and advocacy, we create a broad spectrum of service delivery systems that value and support people, as they age or encounter disability, to live in their homes and communities with dignity and good quality of life.
This position will direct, promote, and advocate for State and Federal legislative policy on behalf of W4A, and will partner with other state and federal aging network associations, State and Federal agencies, and healthcare service delivery systems to advance policies and programs that support older adults and individuals with disabilities.
The State Director reports to the Association Chair. This position is full time and exempt from federal overtime provisions.
Essential Functions:
Essential functions include the following, other duties may be assigned:
Direct, promote, and advocate for State and Federal legislative policy on behalf of W4A, and will partner with other state and federal aging network associations, State and Federal agencies, and healthcare service delivery systems to help advance W4A?s mission.
Develop messaging to advance awareness and understanding of the critical role that the AAA?s play in Washington State.
Represent W4A at a variety of meetings including those with state level policy groups, legislators, community stakeholders, provider organizations, etc,
Provide support and insight for the association?s work in articulating annual goals and by periodically developing/updating strategic plans. Monitor the completion of critical tasks and provide reports back to the association.
Compile and report outcome and performance data from the W4A member organizations that effectively highlights the accomplishments of the association.
Coordinate with W4A membership and outside organizations such as advocacy groups on special projects, providing continuity and building consensus around collective ideas and assist with developing action plans,
Seek development opportunities, i.e. grants, that fit within the association strategic plan. Oversee the implementation of new initiatives.
Manage the business of the association including:
Prepare and manage an annual budget in conjunction with the W4A Executive Committee. Provide monthly status report for the monthly meetings.
Develop professional written correspondence (letters of support from W4A, responses to State and Federal draft policy and legislation that convey W4A member feedback),
Coordinate and develop agendas for the monthly association meetings and all committees of W4A,
Supervise a part-time administration assistant who is responsible for meeting materials, compiling minutes, coordinating meetings, and maintaining the association?s website.
Desired Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
Developing policy and programs for older adults and individuals with disabilities.
Developing culturally competent policies and programs for communities of color, immigrant/refugee populations, veterans, LGBT communities.
Previous experience acting as a liaison with a national organization, such as the National Association of Area Agencies on Aging.
Developing and managing budgets.
Supervising staff including completing performance goals and personnel evaluations.
Be a solution-oriented facilitator and program spokesperson.
Skilled with public speaking and developing effective presentations.
Demonstrated ability to manage and develop work teams.
Organizational management, strategic planning and creative problem solving.
Compiling and presenting data to effectively communicate W4A mission.
Design and implement federal and state policy; analyze and interpret policy and regulations.
Knowledge of long term services and supports and Area Agency on Aging programming.
Minimum Qualifications:
B.S/B.A. with five years paid experience advancing public policy, and planning, or a Masters with three years of paid experience advancing public policy and planning. The position requires excellent verbal and communication skills, and competencies in building consensus, developing strategic partnerships, effective advocacy, analyzing legislation and interpreting regulation.
Work Environment:
Position is located in Olympia, Washington. Work occurs both in office and at external stakeholder meetings. Position requires regular local and regional travel, and occasional travel within and outside Washington State.
Compensation / Benefits:
Starting salary $75,000 to $95,000, depending on experience.
Stipend for retirement and medical benefits.
