Description
Wiley WLS is looking for a full-stack Web Developer to join our Web Development team. This position provides hands-on technical expertise to create and maintain functions, tools, and solution-oriented applications to support Workplace Learning Solutions products. In this role you will have the opportunity to have a direct impact on the architecture, development processes, and technologies we may adopt in the future.
We are looking for someone who is not afraid to jump into the deep end, whether it is collaborating on a solution, learning a new tool, or challenging an idea. This position requires you to be comfortable in a fluid environment. Projects move quickly and can change even faster.
Our current stack is in both VB and C# with SQL Server Database. This includes JavaScript, HTML, CSS, XML, XSLT, as well as office automation and a few other technologies. Most of our sites are built to be Mobile Friendly if not Mobile First. We use Vault to manage code and Jira for workflow management.
Responsibilities
Engage with business stakeholders and executive management, with the authority and scope to apply your expertise to many interesting technical problems
Demonstrate a strong understanding of UI, cross-browser compatibility, general web functions and standards
Communicate and collaborate consistently and effectively with colleagues
Write well-designed, testable, efficient code by using best software development practices
Create website layout/user interface by using standard HTML/CSS practices
Integrate data from various back-end services and databases
Gather and refine specifications and requirements based on technical needs
Create and maintain software documentation
Maintain, expand, and scale our sites
Stay plugged into emerging trends and apply them to operations and activities
Cooperate with web designers to match visual design intent
Requirements
Proven work experience in web programming
Solid understanding of how web applications work including security, session management, and best development practices
Adequate knowledge of relational database systems, Object Oriented Programming, and web application development
Aggressive problem diagnosis and creative problem solving skills
Strong organizational skills to juggle multiple tasks within the constraints of timelines
Ability to work and thrive in a fast-paced environment, learn rapidly, and master diverse web technologies and techniques
Ability to work with minimal direction
Comfortable contributing to group discussions concerning design, process, architecture, etc.
BS in computer science or a related field desired
