Maine Behavioral Healthcare is seeking Special Education Teacher at our Spring Harbor Academy located as part of Spring Harbor Hospital. Under the supervision of the Director and the Clinical Director, the Teacher works as a member of the education team to design and implement designated instructional services. The teacher is responsible for meeting the prescribed academic, behavioral, and daily living needs of students in accordance with the IEP and behavior plan, while supporting each student?s progress towards fulfilling State Standards.
Responsibilities:
Develop and ensure the implementation of Individual Education Programs that support the learning needs of each student with clear, measurable goals and objectives that reflect expectations that are functional and can be reasonably implemented upon discharge.
Complete all paperwork within timeframes established by SHA
Supervise and coach the Education Technicians in applying student-focused multi-sensory approaches when implementing each IEP and behavior plan.
Prepare lessons specifically designed to meet the goals and objectives of each IEP and ensure that materials are available and organized when needed.
Model teaching and behavior management interventions.
Meet regularly with classroom staff to ensure consistency in implementation and to address any questions/concerns.
Monitor student progress through collecting and analyzing data and provide required reports on student progress in a timely manner.
Collaborate and communicate effectively with receiving schools/programs, parents, the hospital and school staff.
Facilitate and participate in the committees and meetings scheduled to support our students and the overall functioning of the school.
Provide instruction (with the support of the Education Technicians) on all new learning for students, 1-1 and in small groups.
Model instruction approaches and behavioral strategies for staff for the purpose of improving the effectiveness of all interactions with students.
Organize and oversee the duties of classroom staff to ensure the provision of an effective, orderly and student-focused classroom environment.
Work in a year round educational program without a set vacation schedule or storm days
Successfully train, demonstrate/model effective implementation, and employ physical restraint for the purpose of maintaining the safety of students and others.
Demonstrate annually full competency in Seclusion and Restraint Skills and CPR.
Attend and participate in biweekly swimming lessons with students in the pool.
Qualifications:
Bachelor?s degree in special education or related field; Master?s degree preferred.
1+ year of teaching experience.
Maine Department of Education: Certification 282 ? Teacher of Children with Disabilities.
Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide education and care to students throughout the formative years (ages 5 ? 20).
Ability to swim in both shallow and deep water to secure safety of students in the event of an emergency.
