What do we do? We are a professional firm that provides ESOP and 401(k) recordkeeping and administration services for companies that sponsor Employee Stock Ownership Plans (ESOPs). Our main office is located in Charlottesville, Virginia, although our client base is nationwide. We are one of the top 5 companies that provide ESOP recordkeeping and administration services.
What are the technical parts? We have two web-based applications that we have built in-house over the past ten years. One of them is used internally for administering the Plans and the other is a client portal to share balance information with employees in the Plans and streamline communication about the ESOPs. These are PHP based systems that are continually improving and we have three full time IT staff involved in the programming and deployment of these systems now.
What do we aim to do? We have an ambitious list of enhancements that we want to tackle, so we want to hire another programmer. This is the sort of environment where your ideas can make a difference and you can help shape the direction of a mature set of applications. Prior experience in PHP is helpful, but programming aptitude and an eagerness to learn is even more important. We like working with people who question how things are done and make intelligent suggestions for improvement. Depending on experience, this individual has the flexibility to work from home or at our office in Charlottesville, Virginia.
Software Developer
Responsibilities:
Maintains and modifies existing PHP applications on their own as well as under direction from senior programmers
Assumes responsibility for ongoing data architecture for product
Takes independent action to correct problems encountered during systems operations
Leads or participates in process improvement and is a catalyst for change
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
Practical experience programming (in PHP a plus) and familiarity with the software lifecycle
Ability to effectively communicate technical concepts to other staff members
Demonstrated aptitude for learning new technologies
Knowledge of database design and understanding techniques for relating object code to database records is required
The successful candidate will have played a key role in the design, implementation and maintenance of web-based applications in the past
Experience developing software in the Finance sector is a plus
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Information Systems
2-5 years of related experience preferred
Strong interpersonal skills
Practical experience programming in PHP a plus
Enthusiasm to advance professional career
