The Government Employee Voluntary Investment Plan (GEVIP), a not-for-profit supplemental pension plan for select U.S. Federal Government employees is looking for an experienced Accounting Manager in our Herndon, VA office. We deal with sensitive matters and require a high degree of discrete judgement in our work.
We require an active US Government TS/SCI security clearance with either a fullscope or CI polygraph.
General responsibilities include
Responsible for performing all daily, weekly and monthly (non-member transactions) accounting activities are completed correctly and in a timely fashion
Analyze data and prepare financial documents and reports for internal and external purposes consistent the mission, vision and goals of the Plan.
Develop a sound system for the ongoing use of and enhancements to the Plan?s financial and accounting operations.
Monitor financial activity for potential fraud and risks. As necessary, provide solutions to Executive Director and/ or Plan Administrator to address and mitigate risks.
Ensure security/integrity of funds received and disbursed by following procedures for proper controls and timely with accurate reporting
Prepare and submit required state and federal reports and associated submissions (fed and state taxes, etc.) Analyze and review financial data, prepare financial statements and reports for both internal and external audiences
Develop and provide accurate bi-monthly reports on portfolio returns
The selected candidate must be:
Self-motivated and at times a self-directed individual
Team player willing and able to handle multiple tasks depending on the workload
Possess a high degree of attention to detail working with written and numerical data
Minimum of two years experience using MS Excel to include:
Working with complex values in text and formula fields
Accurately using multiple concurrently with the ability to seamlessly move between them
3+ years or similar experience, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll processor)
Pleasant demeanor with expressed desire to assist our plan members with a client-centric attitude
The ideal candidate would also have the following skills and qualifications:
Enjoys the process of analyzing and solving financial and/or mathematical problems.
Lifelong learner ? interested in expanding one?s knowledge
Ability to easily assimilate technical knowledge and explain information to a individual
Willing to grow into a position that requires knowledge of IRS-qualified retirement plans, accounting rules and advanced spreadsheet development
Experience with the following is a definite plus:
Experience with accounting and budgeting software
Familiarity with qualified IRS retirement plan regulations (TSP, etc.)
Genuine interest in learning about investment vehicles such as mutual funds, stocks and exchange traded funds
This position can be structured as either part time (32 hours a week) or full time 40 hours a week
Our offices are located on the Herndon/Reston border with free parking right off the Dulles Toll Road in Herndon, VA. Although a small office, we offer a we offer a very competitive salary/benefit package including a 401K plan with 6% employer match, full healthcare benefits with 100% of the premiums paid for by GEVIP and a daily one half hour paid lunch break. Additionally, we adhere to the US Government holiday schedule including paid leave based on our sponsor organization?s schedule.
