ESP is comprised of multiple operating companies that operate in the leasing, golf cart, fabrication, and trucking spaces. All the operating companies keep their own P&Ls individually, but also require consolidation for financial, tax and bank reporting purposes. The business has long roots in Sarasota and originally incorporated in 1979.
The Company seeks a controller to work and execute the accounting and financial activities of the businesses. The business is in growth mode and will also be transitioning to a new financial system in the future. The business seeks both candidates who are ready-to-be a controller for the first time or those who have been a controller for several years. Position Responsibilities
- Direct the financial affairs of the organization and prepare financial analysis of operations including interim and final financial statements with supporting schedules.
- Develop and manage an accounting staff to execute on all the required accounting activities of the company. Currently direct support staff is two people, with other company team members helping on sales data entry.
- Responsible for the company?s financial plans and policies, its accounting practices, the maintenance of its fiscal records and the preparation of all financial reports, including monthly closing statements: I/S, B/S, and SCF for each company, plus consolidating financials of the same. As is natural, this includes responsibility for the chart of accounts and GL.
- Responsible for other normal accounting requirements of an organization of this size including: fixed asset listings, depreciation schedules, accruals and pre-paid schedules and maintenance of them, deposits, insurance schedules, reconciliations of all other balance sheet accounts, sales tax reporting, and anything else necessary to maintain an accurate balance sheet and income statement using accounting practices that are close to most GAAP policies.
- Responsible for all accounting entries to support a bank SBA loan, other capital leases, and a bank revolver -- including recording payments of amortization and interest.
- Responsible for the inventory system, inventory controls, and ongoing training the department on proper use of the system to maintain accurate.
- Responsible to oversee the tracking of assets (golf carts) for retail floorplan reporting and auditing that occurs with outside finance organizations as part of the business.
- Provide management with financial and operating information in order to appraise operating results in terms of profitability, performance to budget and other measurements of fiscal soundness such as income, expenses, earnings, and working capital.
- Role has flexibility and authority to continually improve the internal controls and process of the full accounting function under the guidance of the President.
- Manage the company?s annual audit/review process both in preparing all requested reports for external accountants, answering questions, executing research or AJEs, and verifying the accurateness of the final draft audit until its final release.
- Participate in preparation of the tax returns of the businesses, in coordination with the outside CPA firm.
- Oversee the A/R and A/P process for accuracy and completeness in recognizing all revenue and expenses, in the proper periods.
- Responsible for weekly and bi-monthly payroll, covering approximately 45 employees.
- Responsible to support the President for any bank reporting requirements.
- Assist and participate in various projects as determined by management.
- Must be able to work independently, have strong Excel skills, be able to prioritize your time and department activities properly, and enjoy the nuts and bolts of both working in and leading an accounting department.
- Position is salaried and a typical work week averages 45-52 hours/week. This can fluctuate based on time of year or the needs of the business.

Qualifications
- Requires a bachelor?s degree.
- Solid communication skills, time management skills, a detail orientation, and experience managing other accounting personnel.
- Experience across all the key functions required of an accounting department: A/R, A/P, payroll, monthly close and financial reporting, sales tax, all balance sheet accounts and the GL, JEs, budgeting, reconciliations, and oversight of all accounting controls and approvals.
- Ability and interest to operate in a dynamic environment as the company grows. As such, the company is looking for someone that enjoys operating in an environment of continuous improvement, and believes that strong process development can increase efficiency, improve productivity, and reduce errors.
- Must enjoy working with people and be excited about developing new skills and knowledge.
- Must be comfortable in learning the existing accounting platform of the Company and operating in a multi-company accounting environment, and helping transition to a new accounting system in the coming year.
- Prior experience in business system conversions a plus.
- Must have a positive attitude, willing to wear multiple hats to get the job done, and have a can-do attitude.
- Applicant must be Sarasota based. No relocation offered.
Compensation
Salary target range of $53,000 ? $63,000+, depending on experience and background
